THIS MONTH’S MEETING

We will depart from the South Carolina Visitor’s Center on I-20 at 2PM for the drive to Columbia.  If you’re planning on attending please let Leslie Romano or myself know so that we will wait a few (very few) extra minutes for you if you’re running late. 

 

January Meeting Notes –

The club met at the Sagebrush (alias Stagecoach) restaurant in Aiken.  We had a tremendous turnout for this meeting, and although I couldn’t join in the cruise from Augusta, I understand that it was fun. 

I passed out some information on races at Road Atlanta, and the tour at the Georgia Music Hall of fame.  Both are potential trips this year.  The race of interest at Road Atlanta is the 9th – 13th October.  Eckler’s is planning on some sort of Corvette coral at Road Atlanta.  This race is the weekend before the Eckler’s reunion.   A trip to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame can probably be planned for any weekend.

 

Savannah Gathering – The Savannah Gathering is scheduled for 26th – 27th April.  The gathering this year will be held at the Savannah Convention & Trade Center with the cars being on display inside.

  The following information is provided:

1.     Early Registration Deadline is March 26, 2002.

2.     Hotel Information – they have reserved a group of rooms at 3 area hotels.  The Radison is $129.00 per night (plus appropriate add-ons). They have indoor, secured parking – Phone 1-800-333-3333.  The Best Western Bay Street is $79.00 per night (plus appropriate add-ons) – Phone 912-233-1011, ask for Tamara.  The Courtyard Marriott at midtown for $84.00 (plus appropriate add-ons) – Phone 912-354-7878.

 

 

The price is significantly more this year than in previous years.  Early registration is $50 per person (it was $25 per person in previous years).  This includes a welcoming party on Friday at 7PM, lunch and dinner on Saturday.  Dinner will be Low Country Boil and will also include fried chicken.  Late registration is $60 per person.  Normally, if you are committed to making the trip, the club will write one check to cover the registration and you will remit that amount to the club.  I am planning on staying at the Best Western Bay Street.  If you also plan on staying there, I would recommend that you make your reservations now!

I will attempt to contact someone from the Savannah club to inquire as to why the price increased so much from last year.

 

Mall Show – We should think about contacting the Mall management to see if they plan on having a Father’s Day show this year.  Russell Blandin has volunteered to head this effort, so if you would like to assist him, please let him know ASAP.

 

Club Shirts and Hats –  I am preparing place an order for club shirts and hats.  If you want a particular color and/or size, please email me with that information, if you haven’t already done so.  Several members have requested that the shirts be made of a lighter weight material, so this order will be of that type, if available.  For new members – although you may buy any color shirt that you wish, the club color is red.  The cost for the shirts is $25 per shirt, and hats are $10.  If there is any change in this price, I will let you know.

 

Phone List – An updated phone list was pasted out at the meeting.  If you were not there, they will be available at the next meeting.  If you do not attend, I will mail you the phone list.  Please provide any changes to me, by the 15th of March, so that I may publish the final phone list.

 

Club By-Laws  - I will update the club by-laws to incorporate the changes voted on at the December meeting.  Once updated, and signed by the Club Officers, they will be distributed to each member.

 

Upcoming Events –

23 February – Club meeting – Trip to California Dreaming in Columbia, SC.  We will depart the South Carolina Visitor’s Center on I-20 at 2PM.

 

30 March – Club meeting – Location to be determined.  Any suggestions?

 

26th thru 27th April. Savannah Gathering- Savannah, GA.  This will be in lieu of the April meeting.  Details to be discussed at the February meeting.
