One of the things that are confusing people in regards to that Manta Ray GT, is that GM Manta ray, "that they chopped up the original Mako to build". thats A seprate car all together. And quite unique I'm sure you'll agree. But the picture at the top this page is A "Motion Manta Ray GT". If Dave would put some of them articles in the links page that I sent him, every body would see that Joel Rosen did design A concept of his own, The Manta Ray GT, and it differs dramaticly from the GM Manta. The reason "T" has associated this particular car with something he seen from an overseas source, is because "many of Rosens customers were overseas, the article states that. The best way to distinguish between the two, is "The Manta Ray GM" of witch there is "only one" and it was recently at the Corvette Museum, GM still shows it from time to time. The "Manta Ray GT" is Motions and came in kit form and A few turn keys. Again those articles distinguish visuals. I don't know why details are so important to me, I welcome refutes as it would only contribute to A better knowledge for all. Harry. Harry H. McD I

Here are some more observations, check out the links page,Rayburn penningtons car is an original "Motion Manta Ray GT" front to rear. Now look at Mike Myers car, "its got A Mako nose", ( with the voids filled in like my old roadster ), with A Manta Ray GT tail section. there are so many variations out there, thats what causes the confusion. To each his own, thats what customs all about, have you looked at the new "Mid America catalog", or the Eklers for that matter, seems every new issue they add something new in the custom aftermarket body panel dept. Things are gonna get real confusing down the road for future generations. Interesting! Harry. Harry H. McD I

From what I have gathered the Motion Manta had a "Maco" rear clip with the addition of what I will call "super duck tail" spoiler. In one Motion ad I have it lists that SDT spoiler as a seprate "Manta GT" part. I give credit to Ecklers to first market a SDT for the 68-73 style rearend....Basically ( with some extra filling and frenching) that's what my "custom" rear bumper is, a 68-73 with a SDT spoiler... Notice the tail light panel/spoiler from left to right appears straight across left to right on MM's car where it's peaked on the "MACO" cars. MM's car has the 68-73 rear bumpers and lamps so I have to wonder if MM's car is built with a "maco rear window " on the stock rear clip... Makes sense to me. It's how I would do it if I ever come into a mako rear. M. Myers told me adamantly in an email that his car is an early Silva car and it never had the "voids" or "dips" in the hood. and came with the SDT spoiler. In all due respect I believe someone just did a really good job of filling the dips. The headlight buckets that look Datsun Z to me that the Motion Manta has were offered by more than just Motion, I know Brunos was one who sold them in the 70's. Even Ecklers had their version of it. The motion manta also appears with a chrome from bumper and with the 74 style 5 MPH bumper cap nose. I've seen it with the Motion phase hood and with the L-88 hood. In my humble opinion Motion used parts that were out there to put together the Motion Manta GT. Even the name is a take off on the GM show car. Something like I did with Bat vette or that I'm doing now, nothing on my project now is truly "one-off" it "could" be copied with off the rack parts. To me the GM Manta ray is 98% still GM Mako from the doors forward seems all they really did was give the mako nose a chin spolier changed the side pipes, and gave it clear headlight covers ( at least they look clear in pictures and thats all I have to go on) They ruined I mean re molded the mako rear into the GM Manta ray rear. I look at Ecklers and any catalog or web site I can get my hands on and the sad thing I see is with each catalog some custom C-3 piece bites the dust. ACI still has some custom c-3 stuff as does Vanacors... ACI did that short lived Duntov turbo in the early 80's "Variations" What an understatement...You have heard me say before no two "Maco's" are alike. Makes me wonder about all the clones in that one Silva picture you have Harry, pretty much they are all alike except for paint/trim type options.... Where are they all now? Cheers, T.

sounds great... Some won't reply just cuz they are "too cool" Others will just hook up long enough to see if they can score that part they need but if it only scored a couple cool people it would be well worth it. I get depressed over people with worthless crappy attitudes when it comes to camaraderie about their cars. I run into the ones at meets that are so puffed up with their car they won't talk about it, I recall the guy at old town with a fairly radical c-3 he said he built the whole thing by hand yet didn't know thing one about anything on it... These are many of things that motivates me to do the whole story on my build up. BTW, the car at the start of this thread, are there any pictures of it's tail? It appears to have the turbo rear wing like on mine with the "Motion manta" SDT rearend"...hum...

Let me put in my two cents worth here, Firstly, a Manta ray GT uses the original tail lamp panel, unlike a maco shark which has a VERY much different body contour , A manta ray GT , like Ray penningtons red car has a very near stock rear , with the spoiler added , you could buy just that spoiler , you'll see it it many Motion full page magazine ads. Also , the Manta ray GT has stock , low fenders and a hood, the shark has the HIGH raised fenders we all love. I have a silva shark and a car very much like Ray penningtons car from the firewall back and if you see them together the differances are quite noticable. One reason I'm not "THAT" big a fan of a manta ray GT is the low fenders. I think driving a shark looking out past those high fenders is like ....wicked cool . I very much agree , the great thing about custom vettes is you can call your own shots and build what you want. I sure do miss John Silva . I think we all do. I am Johnny Maco and I approve this message:) John Arruzza
