LAST EDITED ON Feb-18-09 AT 04:02 PM (EDT) Sorry guys I know it is not a Mako, but it was my old show car in '67/'68 it is a spit window, which no one wanted back then.LOL...I won the ISCA Class Championship that year and I'm now restoring it to a similar configuration, but with an updated paint job and interior....as I remember, (and I'm getting older..LOL)there we only 4 of these front ends made and I got the last one, I know that two of them went to Jerry Pennington in Detroit, and went on his show cars,I think these are still in his son's possession, I believe the guy's name that built the mold was Jerowskie(spelling?)a model maker in Detroit, he built the buck on his '65 or '66 convertible. I remember blocking up the front of the car, because the clay weight was in the neighborhood of 400 pounds, and there was a concern it would hurt the suspension. Anyone can have a stock Corvette Attachments

LAST EDITED ON Feb-19-09 AT 07:30 AM (EDT) We have seen this front end before and I believe that more than 4 exist and I also remember a few years back one surfacing up on ebay for sell. I even think one of our members owns one or has since sold it. While they are no longer in production and not easy to find they were made by several companies. This front end clip was modeled after the original 61 Mako Shark. If placed on a vert you could re-produce a 61 Mako Shark replica. Molds could still be taken off this piece. It is still a wonderfull part and looks great on your split. Please keep us up to date on your car and it's progress and thanks for bringing it to MakoShark2.com and being a member. McBrain

6. "RE: Color, I need help"

The closest color codes i can tell you for the Mako you are talking about is a 1995 GMC TRUCK color called "Sapphire Black Pearl". That is the "Metal flake" you saw. Spray multiple coats at the very top, and eventually you'll get to a black look. Only under direct sunlight will you actually see a blue hue to it. From there down, you can mix and match by adding white, or by thinning the color coat till you see blue. If you use LITE GREY PRIMER you'll get a better effect, but you have to make certain you are doing CLEAR COAT to have any weather resistance. You can add metal flakes if you want, but I would recommend the newer "Mylar" type plastic flakes. They don't run or give you tiger stripes and the glitter effect is much more preferable in sunlight. From there down to the white, you simply add WHITE paint in measured amounts.... In other words, keep track of how much "BY WEIGHT" so you can replicate if you run out. I RECOMMEND HVLP systems so you don't run out, and you can fade a LOT better. I use a HVLP with a turbine motor, so it's a dryer air, only 4 psi so there is NO OVERSPRAY, and you can save a TON of paint. You have less chance of running out of paint with HVLP. Otherwise, just paint some test pieces until you get the correct fade color, and remix as needed. Once you get low enough on the car, then you can go with the White color. I usually use base/clear and add the pearl essences to the clear so that the fade lines are not as "delineated" and it comes out much much better. HOpe this helps. For the rest of you REGULARS here.... I"M BACK FINALLY! Went through a hell of a lot of spinal surgeries and wheelchairs, but I am up walking again and ready to go at it. I had to move to California to find a doctor who could fix me, and sell my soul, but it worked. So here's to a great coming year. Long live Mako Shark II! Hope to hear from you all soon.
