Plans are to leave the headlight area open. The units that I am looking at are a custom headlight unit for a BMW motorcycle with 3.5" Hella modules, but I only want the headlight assemblies and the mounting/adjusting hardware, so I am spreading the word among my bike friends to let me know if the mounting/adjusting hardware for the small modules are available through normal suppliers. I am going to try to locate a source for the various hardware parts, before I resort to making my own. Take a look at the mounting/adjusting flanges to see if any of you know where I can get something similar. Thanks

Wow Gabriele! That Alfa Romeo SZ sure has a nice looking front! I probably couldn't afford the headlight lamps, not to mention the whole headlight assemblies!! I suppose that this beautiful automobile is sitting in front of your house when you aren't driving the Maco?

Hey Guys!!!! Stop Looking!!! I not only found an American supplier, but have prices. I'll have about $75 each in the assemblies x 6 for about $450. Now...as soon as I can get Idah to give me permission to get them...not!!!

Will be looking to order right after Christmas...or better yet...have the kids pool their gift money and give me a check!!!

Anyway...thanks guys. I'll let you know what my body guy says.

Carl: Thanks for the e-mail. My venture started by looking at motorcycle sites which ended in an aftermarket set-up for BMW. However, the Hella units are produced for both the automotive and the motorcycle industries, so with futher research I found what I was looking for.

Following are the sites where I found the headlight assemblies. The Hella site gives general information, but they don't sell from that site, must go through a retailer. The retailer they gave me is Susquehanna Motorsports in PA. Their site shows much of the dimensional info. I am looking at the 90mm Halogen units.

Hope this helps...

BTW...I met with my body guy over the weekend and we have decided what to do. We plan to keep these assemblies within the original headlight openings, so using 3 units will push the design beyond what may look good without destroying the original openings. So I am going to have 1 high beam, 1 low beam, and 1 directional to each side, all round units. To get the right angle relationship to the original headlight opening and the road, the units must have angled mounting, so there will be some design attempts before they are ready to work. When completed, these new headlight assemblies will be an insert item very similiar to the Eckler units that are in the car right now. More to come on this venture...

I would like to have that for my Avalanche. I like the light it gives off.

I'm still looking for something that I can use as a directional light. Plan to use one of the 68138 or 68137 modules for doing our design mockup, then ordering the rest later. Good luck with your design Carl...
