Ok, here (I hope) is what you folks were asking for. I went outside to the junkpile to the kit cars that were thrown together in my backyard and here is what I found, complete with pictures. Look at the red door jamb. It appears stock with no modifications. Compare it to the bare door jamb in the second pic. The first car is the shorty, and the second is the motion kit. Please note that the wheel openings measure exactly 30 inches across at the widest point, thats both cars, Just for the hell of it, I uncovered the other shark and it is 30 inches too. The wheelwells are centered over the rear wheels on both cars. It is the door skin treatment that gives the illusion that the wheel opening is moved, it is not. The design of the wheel well is not as round on the red car as it is on the other two. In an effort to save some space, please refer to the pics of the entire cars on my owners page for comparison. Here is the kicker. Note the pic of my red cars door. I drew lines on the glass to show the differences. The mid body line is 1.5 inches longer on the red car than on the others. The lower door is a little over 1 inch longer than stock. From the bodyline to the top of the door, there is no modifications at all. This is due to nothing more than a piece that has been glassed onto the doors. It helps accent the wheel opening to give it that gm look like the showcar. The doorskin is not modified, just a piece glassed onto it to add that custom look. The last shot shows approximately where the piece was glassed to the orig. skin. I hope this clears up the mystery. I am always here to answer as much as I can and also to take criticism both of my cars and personally. Tuesdays Gone..... "Randy" Attachments

I love it! Thanks alot Randy, i realy appreciate your time and effort in helping me and others to better understand the mysteries behind the Short Tail's Bee-hind. I dont know if it's just me but, this also brings up another topic about the same subject. Want to hear it?, here we go... The Mako Shark II Concept car doesn't appear to have fender flares any bigger than your average C3 and, there pretty small. It looks to me that to achive this look out side of "door skins", you would need these bigger flares which leads me to this: On the concept car, was it really that it's door skin was extended back and on the Maco it's just the flares that adds this illusion? I know this may seem a little out of scope, just something i'm still scratching my head about. I better start glassing soon, purchase some door skins and start experimenting. And we shall flow a rubber river forth to thee and teeming with Maco's shall it ever be.

Scott thats why i was contemplating the door skin theory because you wouldn't get that chopped up look. Not to say the the way the shorties are built is bad, no i like them just wanted to figure it out and in doing so i learn that the true path is to the skins. Thanks for the informative photos and information Randy.
