If I remember right- John told me he used hinges from a chevy van or pickup truck. They worked well, although, as with most of the others I have seen, I still needed a stick to hold it up.

Mine used to stay up fine with the springs that were on the hinges. It doesn't any more. When I do the electric lift thing, then it should hold it up fine.
