I'm looking for a photo of Bill Mitchell standing between two Sharks
and at lest one of them has a Odd shapped roof like a raised box.

I know I've had the photo in my collection for some time but, I believe
I've lost it because I can't find it in my archives at the moment.

It's a good photo and I believe some of you know exactly which photo
I'm talking about.

If you find it please post it here. I've been reading some interesting things about this and would like to confirm it.

Thanks! :D

I've been looking for replacement dash parts and have found that my
dash is hard to find. I have the ignition switch on the dash next to
the speed and tach. Most of the time the ignition is on the steering
column, when mines on the dash it'self.

Is this a 68 thing only or, did other modles come like this and how
can I go about finding an exact replacement?

Thats a one year only item. If you dont move the switch, then you must use that year dash.
If you go to a 69 and up dash, you will need to change columns, unless you go to a hidden switch. Maybe hide your switch where your ashtray is.
If you go to a 69/75 column, you can get a straight one for about 100 bucks. tilt/tele units are around 450 and up depending.
Remember, custom car, custom parts. Dont spend a ton on orig. correct parts when it is not necessary.

Wow, thanks for the info Randy.
Do you know how to go about getting the 68 dash part or its, I have
to restore the piece if I got it kind of thing, because it's just to
hard to find? Cause I do kind of like that it's a one year only kind
of thing, that the rest of the vette have them on the column. Unique
you know. I know I'm going custom but, I think some things should
remain OEM.

Well, the one I have has little damage, just a crack on the ignition
switch mount and part of the vinyl is peeling back in the same area but
other than that, It seems for the most part good.

Maybe if I was to pull the vinal off, repair the crack and stretch new
vinyl or an easier none noticeable approach that I have yet to figure
out may be the key.

Seems to me like a lot of work but, may be well worth it.

This is as close as I can find- $289.99. You might have to put the hole in it yourself. Or repair yours and have it revinyled. It depends on how bad it is.

I'll try to get a photo tomarrow. It's to dark to be pawing around with a screwdriver on my dash tonight. The only think I see on the front is a little bit of silicon, I see no real damage but, the backside of the dash should have a round area type fiberglass mount where the ignition switch tightness up to and stays on. This round area apprears missing or just busted off. The damage I suspect should be backside and easy to repair but, I may still need to know how to revinyl it my self.

You can get the vinyl at a fabric store (at least all of them around here have the vinyl, pleather, headliner material and seat cloth). You can also get it at a upholstery wholesaler... but those aren't always open to the public. There is a 3M Spray adhesive that you can use... but ask at the store that you buy the vinyl, they can always tell you the best way to use the products they sell.

One good thing about bothering a upholstery wholesaler is that they probably can just give you the piece you need... it's probably just sitting in their scrap pile.

Heres a suggestion.
There is a company called Dr. Vinyl.
They have a website and franchises everywhere.
I have had stuff repaired by them and they have done an excellent job. They fix burn holes in seats and all kinds of stuff.
Free estimates.
Way yonder easier than a recover job.
That red dash will fit, but not correct, you must relocate the ignition switch.
When you are looking for that color you call limited edition.
You should ask for 1982 Collector's Edition. That will make it easier when looking for mixing colors and parts.

As far as the 1982 Collector's Edition interior, I remember the Silver
and the Gold but I've seen alot more silver ones than I ever see the
Gold ones.

So would I call it the 1982 Collector's Edition Gold interior? Thats one
thing I've had a problem in locating. I've seen the magazines, Ads and
websites for Corvette interior restoration and always I see the Silver
interior but not the Gold...

I agree on all the input for dash repair. I have an interior guy that works for me. I go in and use his material. There are different kings of vinyl.1 type stretches 1 way. kind of neat. He has some glue that sprays with a gun. It comes out like snot. Works great. Any GOOD interior shop should be able to help. I'll ask him if that is something he can do. I have actually made parts out of fiberglass and grained them to look like vinyl, then dyed them to match the interior. Its pretty cool when you see it.Looks real.
