On a personal note, my 7-year old granddaughter (2nd grade) is going in for extensive surgery tomorrow morning (Friday) at 8:00 a.m. Pacific.

Alexa "Lexie" Adams was born with a rare condition called Crouzon Syndrome, a genetic craniofacial condition where there is abnormal fusion between some of the bones of the skull and of the face that does not allow the bones to grow normally.

She will undergo surgery by Dr. Richard Hopper, a renowned craniofacial specialist, at the Seattle Children's Hospital. The surgery is anticipated to be 7-8 hours long, during which Dr. Hopper will install a Rigid External Distraction System (RED). The RED, a titanium halo, will be bolted to her skull and face for manual re-alignment of her facial features.

After surgery, Lexie will be in ICU and put into an induced coma for 2-3 days; then with the surgery over, will remain in the hospital for another 3-5 days. Although the surgery will be over, the swelling - and suffering - will have just begun. It will take another 9-12 weeks for the "turning of the screws" to bring her facial features into what we call "normal".

What I am asking those of you that are interested in doing so, is to send Lexie an E-Greeting during the next couple of days, so that Children's can print them and have your greeting awaiting her after ICU. Please go to: http://www.seattlechildrens.org/, click on "Send a Patient E-Greeting, then develop your own greeting. Our little patient is Alexa or Lexie Adams (not sure how they will register her as, but my daughter said she would try to get both).

SEATTLE CHILDREN’S HOSPITALSeattle Children's Hospital, Foundation, and ResearchOne of the best children's hospitals in the country, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, Seattle Children's Hospital, Foundation and Research Institute advance pediatric care.

Thank you for your kind consideration...Marv B.

Marv, From the bottom of my heart- I wish her the very best, as well as you and the family to be together during all this. My daughter is 7 y/o, and in 2nd grade, so you just hit me hard with that one. You can bet I will send my wishes and I will try to have my daughter do one as well. Please keep us (or me) informed on progress. God Bless....

Well Guys...all I can say is Thank You all very much. You brought tears to my eyes with, not only your quick responses, but your support to one of the MS2 members in a time of need.

I spoke with my daughter about 1 hour ago and she said that the surgery took about 7 hours, then Lexie went into ICU. Little Lexie was a trooper going into the prep room and had the nurses and staff all laughing, then she told them to be sure to let her know how far she counted...

The surgery went off better than Doctor Hopper expected, as the "halo" fit perfectly and a decision was made that she would not have the mid-face portion installed. She went into ICU and within an hour was conscious enough to speak, even though she was already going into an induced coma. Mom said the hospital staff are just simply amazed at how fast this little girl is responding.

My daughter said she has gotten over 30 E-Greetings just today, coming from all over the country and was very thankful for the kind words...all I could tearfully say was Idah & I have an amazing group of friends...I'm so proud to call you friends.

Ok, now I'm getting drippy...

Will know more on Sunday, but again...our heartfelt Thank You to you for taking a few moments to brighten our family's day. :-)

All our sincere thanks, Marv & Idah

I gess I should keep better track of what is going on. I will keep your granddaughter in our prayers. It sounds like she is doing well and with a bunch of corvette people pulling for her nothing but a speedy recovery will do.

Update:

I just spoke with my son-in-law and Lexie is doing just great. She is feeling very little or no pain, and is only having frustration with the feeding tube. She has to remain on liquids for a short while yet, but the feeding tube should go away today. She has progressed so well that she may get to go home as early as tonight or sometime tomorrow.

I want to express our sincere thanks to all of you for your e-greetings, your thoughts and prayers, and kindness shown. Again...our heartfelt Thank You to everyone for taking a few moments to brighten our family's day. :-)

All our sincere thanks, Marv & Idah

Update: We are flying out to Seattle tomorrow for a week to be with Lexie, so will know more in a couple days. Sounds like she is doing great, with little pain, just uncomfortable with the halo.

I'll post when I know more, but for now...thanks for everything. Idah & I sure appreciate all your well wishes, thoughts, and prayers for Lexie.

Marv

Hello to All!!!

Our little girl is just simply amazing! She went through ICU faster than expected, was able to leave the hospital earlier than expected, has gone through all of the mid-face adjustments, and is on her way to recovery. Because of her wonderful progress, the halo is to be removed on March 21, which is earlier than normal.

Lexie has been home for the better part of a week now and one would not know she had undergone surgery if it wasn't for the halo. We all went out to dinner last evening and she the hit of the restaurant! Her recovery has been great, with no pain from surgery, just annoyance from the mouthpiece attached to the halo.

Once again, I wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who took a few minutes to send her a greeting...I'm told that as messages came in from across the country from those of you, it was heartwarming to know that so many people cared. We are proud to have made your acquaintance and call you friends.

Thank you to all for your thoughts and prayers...Marv & Idah.
