Ok..Im replacing the Engine and Tranny in my Daytona..What a choice out their guys..Haven't setled on anything yet...Looking at a 383 Stroker..or hell even a rebuilt LS1....Opinions on different engines, displacement and HP would be appreciated.....Consensus amongst my buds here is to go with a 383 Stroker....check these out

There is no substitute for Cubic Inches!!!
Big Blocks command more respect.
I was running a 383 in my purple car before I took it apart.
Did I say big block???
You will need new exhaust, but the engine will bolt right in.

BIG BLOCK is the only way to fly. Also means a lot more money at resale time.

Randy hit on it... ( Big Blocks Command Respect ) I'll never forget the first time I heard that. Nothing wrong with small blocks though ;-)

Okay Andy.................................. the nitros didn't kick you're butt enough ?????????????????? I know when we talked at Carlisle I told you to steer away from big blocks because they tend to run hotter, but there's nothing like the rumble of a big block cranking up !!!

....................... and since our talk (and repairs last fall) my Can-Am is now running COOOOOOOOOL !!! Last time I took her out, the hottest she'd get up to was 165 degrees (80 degree day).......... with the a/c going ! Really sweet ! Once the weather heats up, I'll see how she runs now and I'll decide whether I need to install a 180 degree thermostat ! Good luck with with your new undertaking !!! Rick

Small block, bored and stroked to 427 cu in. Put the badges on the hood and when you open the lid, you'll blow their minds! BTW Doug and Steve are good guys and customers of mine. I think you'd like what they do for you.

Big Block Power In a small package. 4.125 bore and 4.00 inch stroke! This is what I have in my beast. Bill Mitchell Hardcore Motown Block extra thick in all the neccesary areas. Open the nose it looks like a 350! Uses all the parts outside as a 350! Even kept the 327 Emblems on the remaining hood scoop. No one knows it's really a 427. Less weight is good. Big Block Chevy with Turbo 400 weighs in about 700 plus lbs. But a Big Block is a Big Block and that's that! Mitchell even has a 454 package also with the same block. It's all about what fits your fancy and what your getting for the coin. Also consider changing out those front springs, Bigger radiator with some extra electric fans, new headers or exhaust manifolds which ever you are using and the handling aspect. Larger sway bar in the front etc.

Well..just did a compression test...all the valves tested at @ 180..except for #8..which came in at 100.....so...a bad valve.....(sigh)....If i drop a new 350/350 in, then i am changing my rear to 411's..upgrading the tranny, suspesion etc....so..as of this writing..waiting for a call back on the valve....its going toooooooooooooo slow , not the car..just the proccesssssssss for my liking...

If you go to 4:11, you may need a new carrier.
Also, that will kill you at todays speeds, so a mandatory overdrive trans swap will need to occur.
Could be more than just a valve.... lets hope not.
Let us know what you find out.

I have been working on the wagon since 12/29/06, and not dragging my feet, hope to hear the engine run on the stand tonight.
That mechanical stuff takes time, especially when you are depending on someone else.... but you already are finding that out.

A lot of good ideas out there. Big blocks are awesome, my last was a Silver/Silever 427 / 450 66 coupe, but it all depends on what you are expecting to use it for. I would much rather beat a big block with a small block anyday, Very satisfying feeling . The bang for your bucks, is the 427 small block for sure, I'm putting a few good ideas together for the Sebring GT, that will suit my prefance of use's,some of which are, SB,.30 over, matching alum. heads & intake, over 10.1 pistons, with a comp cam, with roller rockers , Hooker comp headers, all hooked up to a beefed up 400 trans. Just my way, the wt. transfer is more Io my likeing. Anyway, HAVE FUN !!!

As Steve says..."it all depends on what you are expecting to use it for"...

I wanted to have the bling and driveablilty on the road, so went with the 3-deuces coupled with auto trans...gives me about 18 mpg at around 80 mph over the hwy. Probably could do better with a 4 bbl with small primaries and large secondaries...but gotta have the bling!!!:D

Steve!!! Good to see your back home...hopefully feelin' better.

well..the saga continues....DID a compression test againa dn all 8 cylinders look OK..so, I am now moving past the engine. I've replaced the plugs/wires/dist. cap/rotor and coil..and today ordered a new direct fit aluminum radiator from Dewitts. I'll also get a lower t-sta 180 instead of a 195) and a new temp sensor. Hope to have that installed by weeks end.

THEN the BIGGEST ISSUE is this...my spider gears are GOING..going...ALMOSt gone.....I had wanted to put a new gear set in anyway..411's or so....just curious..ANYONE know the cost to get that done..ballpark wise??????
