Hello my name is Justin. I live in Deland Fl..I have a question regarding a (very) custom 1972 Corvette. I am in the process of restoring, and maybe modding.. ..I don't know if you know anything about the car or not..It has 8 tailights and was Candy Apple red and gold with stripes with cragar S/S like wheels, . .I purchased the car in 2007. I know I will be leaving the body kit on the car, but I really would like to find out more about the mods done to the car, and possibly who did them..now I know that most "vette" people think my car is just somebodys slapped together custom junk..but the more I have looked into it, the more I am beginning to think otherwise..It is currently Yellow and black..it was Candy Apple Red.(Orig it was SC Gray/Leather AC/Auto base 72 coupe)...my car has a Motion (style) hood (with stripes) on it..I have seen several pics of the motion hoods and my car def has a motion (style) hood..the car has a widebody (IMSA/style kit) the body kit is def not a Greenwood ACI, and neither an Eckler's can-am..it has smooth quarters (no scoops) and is much wider than anything ecklers made..I am hoping to find out some history on the car..especially what the front may have looked like..ie. fixed headlights..grilles..etc...and if anyone knows any history on the car..I bought the car in 2007..I got it from PA..and at one point I know it had work done to it in Sarrasotta...I don't really care if it is worth anything or not..I just want a period correct custom..and would like it to be like it was when it was first customized... any opinions or thoughts welcome...thanks

Well hello Justin, Richard here from North Carolina, welcome to the widebody forum and group. I will start by saying since you know the general area where the car came from look on line for corvette clubs in that area. Send them a picture and I am sure someone in a club will reconize that car. Also try any local corvette shops in that area too. I see you have your work cut out ahead of you but the fruit of your labor will be an endless road of glory. Good luck with the widebody and keep us informed of your progress. I was a bit lucky with mine, I knew of the orginial owner and after he lost it in divorce court to his ex wife he made a few attempts to steal the car back but was unsucessful. 16 years later and after many shows and events everyone in this town knows who the real owner is. By the way the 4 tail lights is a first for me. I would make them tick like an old t-bird. Just my 2 cents.

Justin, Welcome aboard. Always glad when another wide body hits the scene. I have the same body kit on my '69 vert and started to do custom work based on my own ideas. I have it from good authority that my kit came from the early Ekler catalog when Ekler was producing the kit. I've not taken the time to do much more research because the car is now in storage after a fiasco with the body shop. For a bit more info: https://makoshark2.com/community/threads/2305/69-can-am-patriot

My driver is a '73 wide body vert: https://makoshark2.com/community/threads/2354/73-can-am-wide-body

Do what you want with the car...it's value isn't going to be in it's originality. Wide bodies aren't for everyone as you will find out from a purist, but the body type does hold a place in history.

Best wishes on your project...keep us posted.

Another site to check out is the Greenwood site. Mike Guyette has a lot of good info on the Can-Am cars. Both of my cars are on this page... http://www.greenwoodcorvettes.com/CanAm1.html

Several other MS2 members have their cars posted on pages 2 & 3...

Well Justin , maybe you can make it to the Charlotte Corvette show in March-30-31. I am setting up an area for widebody cars next to the Carolina Stingrays. I expect to see Randy there.....and I will have my widebody there too.

Hi thanks for the replies..Marv, I have seen your cars online before..and I do agree that you have the same kit that I have (other than the Hood and tail)..I have seen a blue one online too that has that kit..but that's it..I have not seen any info on the kit..I have been told that it was a GM kit, I have been told it was Eckler's race kit..etc..etc..I wrote Joel at Motion and he said that it "looked" like motion panels..I wrote the guys at the Greenwood site when I first got the car in 07..and they weren't sure..If you don't mind, let me ask,who told you it was an early Eckler's?? I have thought that most of the cars built before the late 70s were Eckler's glass..just relabeled..I talked to an ex Eckler's employee at the Daytona Rod-Run and he swore it was not their panels..I wish I could find the earlier Eckler Catalogs (74-77), which may have the kit in it...the debate usually comes down to the Hood, because mine "Looks" like a Motion Hood..I'm sure Eckler's could have made the hood too, although I have heard arguments on other forums to the contrary..anyways..I love your 69, Do you have any other pics that you haven't posted before..I would love to see them..are you going to put a nose cap on it, like he Spyder?..Sorry for so many questions I have been trying to find someone with a car similar to mine for years, and yours is pretty close..Thanks, J.

Justin, Mike Guyette worked for Greenwood during the years the body kits were in production by Eckler. He is also the historian who wrote the pages on the C3 Greenwoods, Can Am's, and other interesting facts.

Mike put my pictures on the website and he & I had several discussions at the time as to the source of my kit. He felt it was an Eckler kit. As I said earlier, I quit worrying about it after that. I meet up with Mike every August at Carlisle...I'll mention your car to him then, or you can contact him at email@greenwoodcorvettes.com

Also look at this page for information...
http://www.greenwoodcorvettes.com/CanAm.html

As far as what I plan to do next on the '69, the nose has been glassed in place of the bumper and I started to design the grill opening/grill area when the work stopped. Also will do something different with the headlights. I bought a set of new Eckler duals but don't like the fitment...still looking at ideas on that issue.

Will likley open the rear up again with air flow vents and might consider opening up the door vents...will see when the time comes. Quite honestly haven't given it much thought because I have a Maco that needs attention...and a widebody that is driven hard getting another 468...$$$$$ ;)

Gotta focus...

Yea, March will be a busy month!
Myrtle Beach has its huge Run to the Sun car show on the 17th.
The next weekend will be the Knoxville Tn, corvette expo, also the charlotte CBA (motorcycle event) and the finale will be Richards show on the 31st.
Going to try to make all these events and meet some of the folks here.
Have not decided on whether to bring the wagon and coffin or the Can Am... time will tell, as of right now, they are both in running condition... hard to believe!
