Hey guys,
Finally been doing some work on the Can-Am.............. long overdue !!! A couple of years ago, the rear gasket on the water-pump started dripping some, and as you know.... you can't tighten those small bolts without pulling the thing off !!! I replaced the gasket with a new one and while I had it open, I riveted one of those round disc on the impeller to increase water flow. I'm surprised Weiand didn't have a cast impeller or better impeller in their polished aluminum pump.......but it's got the upgrade now !

I also ended up yanking the radiator and fans and replaced the 3 Zirgo fans with the high performance dual system like I put on the mako. Let me tell you............... What a difference !!! One of the relays had gone out, so I replaced it and fired her up. Once it heated up to 185 degrees, one fan kicked on and the other soon after....... the engine then cooled down to 165 degrees !!!!! I let her idle for about half an hour and she stayed right there ! It used to stay around 190 to 195 on a cool evening.

Dropped the car down to the ground tonight and took her for a spin................... I wanna tell you this car hauls ass !!! I forgot how fast the Can-Am is.............. the mako doesn't even come close ! I guess that means I've got some more tuning to do on the mako to bring her up to par !

Also the Can-Am warmed up to 180 degrees after laying rubber around the neighborhood................ hopefully, she'll be good on hundred degree days ! The Can-Am is like driving a Cadillac as compared to the mako...... smooth as silk and faster than hell !!! I'm definitely a happy camper now !

Hey Rick,
Thought your Mako is fast snd hot like hell with your fuel system.
Definetly you should make her faster then the Can-Am as she looks eay sleeker. Grin

Rick...there's no replacement for displacement...
I see the same difference with my Can-Am and the '75,
Especially after putting the original engine back in the '75.
Glad to see that you are running the Can-Am again...

Hey guys,

Gave the Can-Am the ultimate heat test today...................... Took her out for a cruise today since it was 105 degrees ! A/C is out, so I couldn't try that too, but after about 45 minutes, she finally inched up to 200 degrees. It used to get upwards of 230 on days around 100 degrees outside.

Now to get the a/c fixed................ system leaked down, the fittings loosened somehow, so now I've got to vacuum the system out and then recharge. Got a a/c vacuum on order along with the hose set to take care of everything......... figured I better go ahead and buy the stuff to do it myself, since I've got so many vehicles that need tending to !!!!!!

Rick

oh yeah...................... IT'S TOO DAMN HOT OUTSIDE !!!!!!!!!!!
