Ok, I think that I am taking too much air over the top of my radiator. there is a 4 inch gap between the top radiator support and the hood. Gonna stop that up with some foam and see if that solves the problem.
Also, Just blew the top seal out of the power steering valve.
I am through with rebuilt sh*t, I just ordered a new one from Riks corvette for a mere 200 bucks.
Aint nuthin that cubic dollars caint cure......
Now where did I put that hand gun.......

Randy................................... I'd a sold ya the original radiator out of the sand shark !!! er........ red short-tail. All ya had to do was asked................. I would have let you have it for $199.99 and you could've saved a whole penny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could have even had the sand embedded in the bottom !!!

OK, 200 bucks later and I have a new power steering valve installed.
No more rebuilt stuff for me.
I also fabbed up an aluminum front spoiler to better direct air flow into the front of the radiator area. Also, I have found a broken strap on one corner of my dual fans, so I made brackets to better attach it to the radiator for a snug fit.
Lastly, I have installed a 4 inch piece of foam between the hood and radiator support which stretches from fender to fender.
Tomorrow, I am going for a test run to see if any of this made a difference.
Basically air has to go through the radiator now,
Stay tuned.
If it all works, I will post pictures.

Another thing to consider is a blockage. We put a new set of heads on a 69 which had an overheating problem for quite a while. It had a small amount of steam and water droplette coming out the pipes.A blocked water passage and a hairline crack between 3and5.We also had a 60 over round track motor we filled and used as a drag motor, then found out a wasp had built a nest in the water passage which was most likely the problem. The best setup we ever had was a reverse flow, which cooled the heads first.

the problem could now be solved. I say that with some reservation.
Last night, I had one of those "aha" moments.
This morning, I took it to a buddy of mine that owns a radiator repair shop.
He power flushed the system. BINGO! I ran it for 25 miles at 80 mph and the temp never got over 180. I am running a moroso 160 tstat.
Coming back into town and idling around and stuck at several lights, with one stop off and the car sat for 10 minutes with the engine running, it only got up to about 195.
I hope this solved the problem, now back to the brakes. With Carlisle looming, I need to resolve the brake problem, switch tires on the coffin, pack the rear wheel bearings and add some sort of sound system for the 400 plus miles.
more updates as they occur.

Randy: I changed the calipers & pads on my car and couldn't get a good pedal no matter how much Idah & I worked on it, so I built one of those power bleeders that they sell for $50-60 and that was all it took. 15-18# air on the bottle and a good seal on the MC forced all old brake fluid out, air out, and new fluid in. Used DOT3 fluid with steel lines. Did all 4 corners in less than 1/2 hour with the bleeder and no other person. Got good pedal now, and brakes. Marv

Hopefully that will take care of your brake problems...bench bleed it good then hook 'er up!!! A-ok on the pix...I'm spending all my spare time getting everything ready to roll for Carlisle, so no rush. I'll show you what I have put together so far, when we get to Carlisle.

The more I look, the more I find that needs fixin'. Changed the ps cylinder 2 years ago but not the lines to it, now I have a leak. Still waiting on the adjustable struts so I can put longer bolts in the spring hangers at the same time - b.o. on the struts - should be here next week. It never ends...but I love it!!! :D

Get that wagon goin'...btw, the wife says Hi and is lookin' forward to seein' your tatoos...:o

Randy,

Wanted to find out what "foam" you used and where you got it from ? I got the gap between the radiator and hood sealed........... but I have a 4" X 6" hole on each side I need to plug -- where the original hinges were !

I used CFR rated foam (california fire retardant).
I had a buddy that worked at a foam fabrication plant (now defunct)
If you have any furniture business places that reupholster, you may check there.
It looks like plain foam rubber.
