Well he emailed back and claims there were 3 cars built. the other 2 were right hand drive and both used in the movie. Says they are both worth $1,000,000 each, the 1 he is selling was built for show and promotion use only.

Nice car.Well done reproduction. They seem to want you to believe it is the actual movie car.

I agree, It has left hand drive, wrong tops, wrong rear end, and the list goes on.
Notice in the real movie, when the car rolls out of the garage for the 1st time, it has moonroofs on it.
The one that mid america has, is sporting factory glass tops, or at least it was when I saw it last.

Here is a shot of the car with the correct tops.
FWIW, there is another forum that is trashing the hell out of the car, and the movie.
Thats why we are a "kinder, gentler, more understanding," bunch of Corvette Customizing Sympathisers

Please permit me to add some information about this car being offered for sale on eBay.

  1. I have talked to the seller many times on the phone. In fact, I talked with the previous owner a couple years ago, who was the guy that built it. He sent me a stack of photos of the making of this car. This car has absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie, and is not even a remotely close resemblence to the 2 actual movie cars. There was never 3 cars. This car was never used for any promotional purposes. It was built only 2 years ago. In fact, he stole my photo that says "Do Not Copy" in which I am selling an authentic CS photo on eBay right now. Compare the two cars and you will see that there is very little about them that is similar.

  2. I am the guy that was offering the very accurate fiberglass body kits for sale. Nobody else has ever created a screen-accurate CS replica prior to my doing so. My research included a worldwide search for authentic items such as the molds, so that I could create the closest replica possible. I talked many time with Rick Korkes Jr., and the original front clip mold is long gone. I did find the hood scoop mold in Australia and had it shipped to me. It was created shortly after the 1983 accident to facilitate a rebuilding of the car. All other molds that were created were destroyed, per owner's request. The hood scoop mold was given to a neighbor, and the neighbor had moved away long ago, thus escaping it being destroyed. I tracked this guy down, called him up, negoiated a deal to purchase it, and had it shipped to me from Australia. Each of the scoops are all slightly different, and it would have been nearly impossible to accurately create this section without having the molds.

  3. I have sold 5 body kits, and am working with a 6th person now. These are for sale on an extremely limited basis, and the guys who are building cars are definitely hard-core CS fans similar to myself. The pic shows the front clip, just as it's pulled from my mold. Note the detachable lower spoiler, which I did on purpose because they broke the spoiler off so many times during filming.

I think the guy who built the ebay car is the one I spoke to a couple of years ago.He was upfront with it being his interpertation of the CS car.The right hand drive was a big thing with the car and any accurate reproduction would have to be also.Problem is,chaindrive steering is crazy, dangerous.Flip a rack and pinion or get a steering box off a brit or aussie auto.I would love some of your customers to drop in sometimes.Randy stated one time that we might need to make a seperate forum for the CS car.I just bought my 3rd copy of cs,this time a dvd.As far as the other pinkie pointers, one man's trash is another man's dream.

The guy who built the car is Mark and he is from Ohio. He sold it to Mario in Colorado. While it was on the transport truck going through Chicago, a nasty windstorm tore the front clip off. The truck driver was able to pick up most of the pieces. Mario setteled an insurance claim, and did the repair work himself.

I converted my car to RHD using a right-side-mounted steering box, modifying the pitman arm, etc. Pedal assembly, booster, brake lines, throttle, heater system, and ducts all had to be mirror-imaged to the opposite side of the car.

For anyone wishing to buy the dvd of CS, I suggest you buy the authentic MGM release. There is a Chinese bootleg dvd that was on eBay for about 2 years prior to the MGM release, but the authentic MGM version is much better quality.

Honestly it should be delivered in an enclosed trailer.I had to sell mine, but I'll have another.Sounds like you made a better than cs movie car.Much better and safer to drive.I would be ok with the left hand drive.I got the mgm version. You have to watch out about forign films, unless you speak swahelii or something. You keep on doing what you're doing. Are you taping any of your builds or the molding process?Like the making of the cs cars. All of us enjoy seeing others progress and projects. One of our members was working on a F-1 type car.Who was that???? We appricate custom here. I appalaud you for your efforts.Well done my friend.Craig

Craig, I appreciate the kind words. Thank you.

I have a few photos along the way, but not many.

I acquired both corvettesummer.com and corvettesummer.net domain names, and my plan is to create an interesting web site when my car is completed. It will have some pics showing the process, but not a lot. I hope to show more of the rare or never-seen-before content that I have acquired along the way.

Here's a pic that shows the mounted steering box. Notice that it's a power steering box, and the old power-assist steering is long gone. The square pipe and bolt is there just to support the tranny.

The Volo Museum in Illinois was the sole bidder on the fake CS car. They haven't even took posession of the car yet, and it's already listed on their web site under the For Sale section with an expanded misleading description about it. Wow. Talk about "buyer beware".

It's no big secret that a lot of museum's cars are just replicas being touted as authentic. But I would have a real hard time buying a car from a museum that obviously greatly exagerates the provenance of a car. Not good. Just my $.02

Build it the way you want it and drive it like you Stole it

Hi Yall, I know I'm alittle late on this post. I had a CS bodied car with the tilt front end but the fiberglass was very thick a half in or more. The only difference on the hood was this car had the scoop top removed and the center was cut out and built up around to put a blower out of the hood. The t-tops had bowties cut out in the t-tops. The back of the car had a giant bowtie across the back. The car had moulded in side pipes and a big wing on the roof over the back of the t-top area and a wing built into the rear of the car. This was alittle more modified than the CS car. This car was a show car many years ago with left hand drive and a matching numbers 1971 body and 454 motor and turbo 400. The under carrage suspension was chromed and the wheels were chrome spoke wheels. My friends had the car for probably 6 or 7 years and the car had been apart for years. This car was probally built 10 or 15 years ago. I sold the car to a corvette dealer last year at the Old Town NCRS. The point being that someone had to build the front clips many years ago. Good luck on finding out new info on the cars.

I ran across this thread, googleing. I recently bought a 77 and it came with a custom hood like the corvette summer car. The guys custom made it out of fiber glass, it is very well done but is a bit heavy and thick. I have mixed feelings about it for my taste and was thinking of selling it. Any opinion, comments, suggestions on price?
Pictures attached hope I did it right and you ccan see them.

Thanks!
