I am real curious as to what all of you have UNDER the hood...Are you running "crate engines" ,383 strokers..454's, 502's, 350 modified SB etc......Would be real interested to see your setups as well..PICS appreciated. It can only help me out down the road...I'm thinking and have looked online at the "crate" setups....That might be the way I am leaning.....

Thanks,

Andy:)

hey andy,

as your probably aware I have to pay for school before the car, but when the car does get rolling I will be putting in a Chevy SB bored and stroked to 383. I'd like the extra power but don't want to go to big block, you can easily get 450 HP out of the 383 without supercharging, which would be lots for me in a smaller car like these corvettes. If you don't mind paying some money for your engine you can check out http://proformanceunlimited.com. Good luck with your build,

Andy
My car came with a 350 motor when I bought it but its now a 502 crate motor. I went with a long water pump motor because I wanted to use a specific March bracket system, but as weve mentioned in some earlier posts some modifications had to be made to the frame. The short water pump would probably been alot easier. I always wanted a BB car so thats why I picked the 502. Going with a SB would be a much easier fit and they even have a 454 SB now, but very pricey.

I onlt had a 305 in my car. It was modified alot, but still small. I never had any problems with it though. Extremely reliable. Remember that. You want something that you don't have to work on all the time. That, and mileage, was important to me. here is a pic of it.

Both big block engines are on stands.
The small block is still in the short car.
I am going to start it on the small block, but if I keep this one, I have a spare 454 to throw in it. When you do that, you need different headers, etc. thats why it is starting out like it came. This small block runs very well.

I think everyone has had engine parts or car parts for decorations at one time or another, right?!? I had the show sign that I painted for my van in my dining room for about 8 months. It looked so good with the lights on it, I had to put it there, cause' I wasn't going to use it for a long time, and didn't want it to be hidden. The wife didn't like it, but oh- well!. I was proud of my work.

I have a cool sign like that, only it is on a mirror.
It will be tough to take a picture, due to the reflection, but I will give it a try.
I used it when we were showing our 1970 NCRS Duntov, blah,blah,blah...
I will see if I can shoot it in the daylight.

Andy, you do have a good memory..................... my 454 was my dining room table for 3 years, at least that's what I called it.
After I got divorced (and the ex-wife cleaned the house out) I built the 454 in my dining room.......... then ruptured 3 disc's in my back --- so the motor sat (waiting to be installed) for 3 years!
The rest is history. lol I'll try to post a pic again ! Rick

It is hard to shoot without reflection. This thing shines like mad, but I managed. You can see the metalflake twinkling on it. It is ALL paint, including the letters, which I used just gold pearl in blending clear, and PPG Flamboyance pearl on top of that. Notice the tribal flames I did under the candy apple. That is actually gold pearl under the red. I made that sign out of wood, sanded the snot out of it, primered it about 15 times, sanding between every few coats, then painted and clearcoated it. Then wetsanded it, and recleared it again. It was alot of work, but when you see it in person- it is really deep, and a gorgeous color. I gawked at it every time I turned the lights on in my dining room. Boy am I pathetic...

Just a couple drawback on that- ( my 2 cents). Mirrored signs are sometimes hard for the person to read because they are looking at their reflextion too. It gets bust. Also, it will probably be plexiglass (cheapest costwise), and that is fragile. You have to be carefull transporting and playing with it, you could crack it. The biggest drawback, as I said ,is reflextions. I like the colormatched look (I have done a couple) they blend great with the car. For your sign, I would shoot graphics on a board like mine, or use the colored stripes around the outside edge, with the white in the middle, dark charcoal on the outside. That leaves a white background for your letters. You could do them in a metallic silver. Are you working on the visual yet??. Another afterthought, is after looking at my sign, the top of yours could be cut at the angle of the chevy bowtie, instead of 'circle cuts'. What do you think??

Until I get a shot of Randy's I can't tell what direction I want to go in. At every show I go to, everyone has a sign..BORING, same old stuff....I'm looking for something that would be UNIQUE, like the car...I have never seen a mirror sign..So am really interested.

I may just go the local sign guy in my one horse town and see what he has to offer.....
