Hey John:

I owe you a call. Getting yelled at by you is like getting yelled at by one of my heros, It's kinda disturbing and I don't like it.

Look, John based on what you have told me about Randy, he is a stand up guy and very knowledgeable. I'm not gonna discuss the 72 Car anymore. I loved that car, but your right, it didn't have the raw feel of the phase III cars or whatever the hell it is that I currently own. If I was in a different place financially, there would be room in my garage for that 72, this car, as well as a 57 fuelie, my 64, a 65 Riv, several caddies, many many bikes, etc, etc. John, you know I laboered over the decision to buy that car as I was (and still am) in the middle of a building project. I'm not a flipper, my 70 deville I've had since 1998 and the 64 I've had FOREVER. Enough said.

Anybody care to share any info on Lubys, Taks Auto, or anything that could help me with this car, I'd love to hear from you.

Boy, you guys are a tough crowd. everybody have a great day and I
hope to meet some of you fellas in person one of these days. I'm o.k, your o.k. I gotta go grab a beer, oh boy.

Ron, go back and read... I always stood up for your ride, I
don't recall seeing much bashing of it, just my continuous
insisting it's a Motion car.

In resent posts, I thought you stated that it did in fact
get the pass by Rosen as a Motion? true or not, I still love
your car and wouldn't really try infuses what a vehicle
is worth in the likes of future sales of it. Thats not why
I would buy a vehicle.

This is an all to common problem we see, too many people only
purchasing a car due to the possibility of a nice turn around
later on. Thats not why you buy a car. Like Randy says, Their

Some here are gifted enough to have a load of cash and
naturaly go through cars as injoyment but, we all turn the
other direction when seeing the same kinds of people always
coming around trying to turn a profit out and not helping the
hobby by their actions.

Nobody here ever attach's anybody's cars but, we all share
distain for those abusing our beloved hobby. A natural healthy
love for the Maco, Baldwin Motion, Motion, Silva, Bohannon
or other makers of the Maco.

Ment for injoyment, not a quick buck.

Nice Charger Johnny! Thanks for posting it.

Wow- what a heated debate. I'm glad I really don't have anything to do with it (I hope). Ron, we are all here to help each other. We are like family, and don't mean any insults or otherwise. Many appologies have been said in the past from issues taken too seriously or out of context. You have had, and do have some bad ass cars, as I wish I had a tiny amount of the money to own a good one now. They are ALL custom corvette, they are worth as much as someone will pay for it. If you can get a fortune for them, fine. Some will be hurt on the turnaround, but oh well. As once stated in Cali- "Can't we all just get along!". It's funny- that last comment of yours sounds like one of those- "I'll see you outside after school" things. We are all hoping to get together someday, and I hope it is for bench racing and chug contests or something. I'd love everyone to come here and spend some time on the lake, and cruising, and of course , a cookout. Let's just move on, and hope you get all the info you need with your new toy. I hope it is a keeper.

Questions:

  1. Were is the lake?

As far as the rest goes:

  1. I'm a huge cook out fan. I make an awesome smoked pork and chicken wings.

  2. I would probabley win the chugging contest, I'm a fair sized guy (who needs to see the inside of the gym)

  3. As far as outside the school, my records about 60/40 (six wins for every four losses) although that wasn't the intent of that message, I'd actually like to meet some more car guys, my life doesn't let me run in that circle.

  4. I have a cottage on a pretty damn nice bass lake, I'm serious, I'd love to see some of you guys. Upstate New York is like the last final frontier. I'd like to learn how to fish on my dock ( no kidding).

  5. Please, if you have any info, help me with this car! Have a great night.

I'm at Crystal Lake in Ellington Connecticut. It actually is one on the best trophy fishing lakes in Ct. I'm going to get a fishing license this week hopefully. I don't know how to lake fish, but I will learn. I will be taking my daughters out. 'Santa' brought us rods for Christmas. I'm a lover, not a fighter, so I don't really have a big 'school' record. Don't ever remember losing one, as I was a bug kid. One of them was me sending one of my best friends to the hospital with a fractured neck. I didn't like the way he was holding me during a wrestling play. I, too, love cookouts. I have an eating problem- I love to eat!. Not a big drinker- Never really got into it. More of an orange soda guy, although, I do drink pretty bad when I do. Anyway, thats my story, Have a great one. Almost time to uncover the boat. I have the vinyl book on my counter to pick what I want to use.

Hi Folks:

Hope everyone is doing well with this heat.

I am still in the process of building my property. The time I have had for this car has been very limited, pretty much only research and phone calls, no wrenching. I am looking for some information and I hope somebody out there can help me. Here gos:

  1. Does anybody know anything about a speed shop that was is in Denver Colorado called Tak's automotive? The majority of the work that was done on this car was completed at Tak's. I finally got in contact with the original owner of this car, he said he was 21 and just out of the air force when he bought it. He had the car at a speed event in Colorado and he met a bigwig from Chevrolet that was admiring his car. This rep from Chevrolet (he couldn't remember the guys name) "pulled some strings" over at purchasing and got this guy a L-88 shortblock (could afford the heads at the time). Car was taken to Tak's automotive for installation of the L-88, the 427-435 heads, headers, baldwin motion hood, flares, air cleaner and traction bar, and some other goodies. Anybody have any info on Tak's automotive?

  2. The story that I got when I bought the car was that somebody had pulled the L-88 in the mid-70's and replaced with an LS-7. After speaking with the original owner he said (and I confirmed on the back of the title)that he owned this car until 1982 and that he sold the car with the L-88 in the engine bay. I gave him a description of the engine and he confirmed the valve covers, the winters foundry L-88 intake, headers, aluminum water pump, so it appears to be the L-88 motor. Does anyone know were the casting numbers or any numbers are on an over the counter L-88? The only numbers that I can make out is a small number stamped above the timing chain cover on the block, and that is barely visable through the red engine enamel.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks for your help.

IF the block has not been decked, there is the usual pad on the right side of the front of the block below the head.
This will have 2 sets of numbers if it came out of a car.
Since that engine is supposed to be an over the counter block, it should only have one set of numbers and should end with "CE".
As you know, the LS/7 was never available in a car, only through the parts department. It was supposed to be in the 1970 corvette, and even some assembly manuals list parts and wiring spacific to that option.
It should be visible from the right side of the car looking down.
the casting numbers are on the back of the block. You can see them from the drivers side. Look down behind the distributor area.
It will be a date code there. Like a 23 7 or something like that.
Let us know what numbers you find and we will all see if we can help you figure out what you have.
I have some ncrs manuals and we will see what develops.

Thanks Randy:

I will be by the car this weekend, I really appreciate your assistance, I'll let you know what I find.

I would try to post photos of this car again but I am a certified "Computer Moron".

I have a 69 conv 435hp car with a Motion Phase III L88 hood. Does that qualify it as a MOTION car? It might even be a L88 car as it has a cast # 439 block and 074 heads but 435 tri power M21 4sp 411 rear sway bars F41 suspension.

Well:

Here is what my limited experience in playing with these cars has taught me so far.

  1. My current car IS NOT a "Motion Car" as it was not delivered through Baldwin Motion (they were open in 1968) and the work done to the car was not done at Motion Performance in Long Island. This current car is at best a Motion "catalog car" as it was delivered through a different dealership and the parts were bolted on by someone other than Rosen.

  2. Is #439 the right casting number for an L-88 block? Your 69 sounds kick ass, and it looks to be optioned almost exactly the same as this car that i now have. I've got the original window sticker for this car and it reads exactly the same, 427/435hp. m21, f41, tran ignition, etc, etc.

Yes 69 L88 should be cast # 439 with 074 alum heads or possibly #512 block if it was a late car 840 cast iron heads for 435hp . The original colors on mine are burgandy with black. came from jersey.
