Gonna be dropping a 409 in the short-tail..........

I was going to post that I was going to OD the mako, but this sounded better ! The tranny has a large 409 casted on the top of it, so I'm not sure whether to call it a 2004-R or a 409........... 409 is a little catchier............ right ???

Actually, I decided since I'll be pulling the motor out in a couple of months -- I might as well upgrade the transmission to an overdrive so she'll be more road friendly. Talked with Scott at Transpartz in FL and got his 2004-R overdrive that can handle more than 450 horsepower ! Decided to go with the 2004-R tranny because it's a bolt in installation......... and since the short-tail has a 4-speed frame with no removable crossmember ---- this will be the easiest route to go. Got home last Friday and had her sitting in front of the garage !!! Rick

I'll keep you informed when I get to the install !

Wayne, It would be really cool to have a 409 under the hood..................... How much do you want ??? ---- Just kidding !!! I'm gonna stick with the 350............ it would be alot more work than I'm interested in putting a 409 under the hood -- fabricating headers and everything else.............. nah !

Did you see the vette on ebay last week that had the Ford flat-head under the hood ? The guy did state that the motor was not being sold with the car.........but I still can't help but wonder why a flat-head - STRANGE ! Take care, Rick

Yep, i saw the flat head . That was stupid thing to do. The 409 would be outrageous but not right for a Mako. My thinking would be a BB w/ tri power and 4 speed.
