After a few mishaps.......getting sick/piece of metal in my eye/throwing my back out/etc....etc.......etc !!! I finally got the motor and tranny back in the mako.

I finished the front end rebuild and was able to get the car reunited with the fresh motor and overdrive tranny last week. Got the tranny all plumbed up earlier this week. Now I'm in the process hooking up all the accessories up.

Never enough time.............. Rick

Thought I'd post some pix of the tranny plumbing. Since I installed a 200-4R overdrive I knew I had to make sure it stayed cool, this had better do it !!!

The line out of the tranny comes forward and to a cooler I got from Roush Racing. I've attached a 1000 cfm zirgo fan to it which will exit thru the gills behind the right front tire. From there it goes thru a tranny filter attached to the firewall and then back under the car and thru the crossframe exhaust hole to a aluminum frame cooler. After the small cooler, it heads to another larger frame rail cooler before heading back to the tranny.

After researching this tranny, I know they need to be kept as cool as possible...... and I figure with the cooler(s) and additional volume of fluid......... this should do the trick !

Looking great Rick. How many coolers are you running ? 3 or 4 ?
I see your moving right along, when do you think you'll have it running and moving ?
Like with my car. I love to see progress

Those Heat Sink coolers really work

Looks good Rick.
I will try to call you this weekend.
Aren't those angle plug heads?
Is there any problems with the headers using those heads?

Carl, I guess you could say I'm running 4 coolers............

the roush (radiator type) cooler
the filter sleeve cooler
2 frame rail coolers (1 12' & 1 18") under the passenger floorboard

I'm not sure when I'll have it up and running, I was thinking by the end of the summer........but I don't think I can wait that long ! I'm going to bring my extra set of headers home tommorrow and continue putting the engine stuff back together. Maybe within the next month I'll have her running ! By the way Carl....... I'm really jealous of the way your engine looks !!!

Randy, check your email ! I'd gotten the aluminum racing heads with the angle plugs when I read somewhere that they would not work with the side mount headers........ but I lucked out. Post # 843 in the lounge shows the clearance of spark plug #4. This was the one that worried me....... but it clears without denting the header in ! Talk to you soon Rick

For Rick- Very nice neat work! Heres my 2 cents on trans colers- anything helps. But at slow speeds, those uner the car do pickup relected road heat. Dare I suggest ANOTHER!! cooler in front of the radiator where it can get cool air? I used a B and M coler, they have 2 sizes. I used the small one on a cast iron trans 55 Packard I have, , and its not sufficient because at slow speeds, it gets hot and reverse fails. Granted, the trans may not be too pristine anymore. Anyway, you can get these thru Summitt or jegs, under 100 bucks. They have a fin arrangement that does not restrict pressure when the trans is cold, and it acts as a bypass. As it warms, the fluid passes thru the cooler. As to coolers working- I put a small 2 pass cooler on my Dads pickup years ago, with the turbo 350 trans. He got close to 300,000 miles on that trans. They are a great investment. Ive had one on my Maco since the late 70s. Got to detail that car and drive it! Or, maybe sell it. Ebay could be interesting. Skip
