Hello, I am interested in purchasing a fully-complete Mako Shark II kit car C3 Corvette. Does anybody know the cost for one of these. I can't find any information on this subject. ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated...Thank you!

I guess it all depends on the car. If your looking for something like a NADA book value there is nothing like that on Mako Shark. Wayne

Paul...first of all...welcome aboard!!!

Be patient and just watch this site as from time to time a car will come up on e-bay, craigslist, or other sites, and the guys will post the link here.

Like Wayne says, the is no blue book for these vehicles and sometimes it may be "buyer beware", so check, check, and double-check if you plan to buy without actually seeing the car.

Hey Marv, thanks for the response. Do you recall approximately how much the Mako II's were selling for?

Again, it all depends on the car. History of the car makes a LOT of difference in price. Most are projects that need restored, very few complete and ready to go. Welcome to the world of Mako. I have 4 Makos 2 of them are on my owners page Wayne Fields.

All that follows is just my opinion and should be taken for the 2c that it is worth...:D

Haven't seen a sale of a good Maco for a few years now, but a good quality rebodied '68 thru '73 should sell for 40 grand or more. '75 and newer should be in the upper 20's. Every Maco, or custom for that matter, is in the eyes of the beholder...is you sellin' or is you buyin'...

If you buy a good early car that is a project, you will have 10-15 grand to buy it and get it home. Then plan on spending countless hours to do it yourself or countless $$$ for someone else to do it...either way you end up with a one-of-a-kind vehicle that is yours and must be driven to get your money out of it. Money pit comes to mind...;-)

I have over 25 G's in a '69 widebody vert that someone else is doing for me with no end in sight...I say just drop the top, fill up the interior with $10 dollar bills, then add $100 for the unexpected...may be close to enough.

I'm going to do the '69 Maco myself...when I retire. Just gotta focus for now...Carlisle is only 233 days away...:+

Wow!!! I can't say anything in 2 words or less...there is actually 3c worth here...:D

Hey Rick...post that "find" with the asking price that we saw at Carlisle in '08, just to give Paul an idea of what is out there. ;-)

Right now I'm looking to buy. I don't really have extensive knowledge about the Mako II, so I am trying to acquire as much info on them as possible regarding the general price I should be looking at. Are '69-'73's really going for 40 grand? If so, does the type of kit matter?

Value of a C3 Mako shark II

Welcome to the forum,

It's a catch as catch can market for Maco/Mako's.
Rarely does anybody sell one and more often then
not when one is for sell it's not complete or has
been hacked to death/customized.

Chances are when you do find a complete Maco/Mako
the seller understands the value and prices it
accordingly... lol somes times.

There were really only a few companies making the
Maco/Mako. Silva, MOTION, Bohannan and I think
Eckler even tried their hand at it.

In my opinion Silva & Baldwin MOTION Performance
made the best ones but Bohannan is also a great
model, doesn't know much about the supposed Eckler
version to comment.

We've seen Maco/Mako's sell anywhere from 4k to
120k and that all depends on Year, Model and
Condition.

Marv is correct, it is an "eye of the beholder" pricing.
If it's worth it to you then it's worth the price you
pay or sell it for. There is no bluebook nor matching
numbers value, it is a pride of the ride kind of deal.

Keep your eyes on the forum is my best advice, links
do get posted for Maco/Mako's spotted for sell.

If you have any questions feel free to ask members
here what they think about the condition of a find
and go from there.

Good Luck finding & obtaining your beast.

History, BB or small block, 4 sp or auto what type car it is all matters, I have 4 they range in price from $8500 for a good project 74 T top .

Welcome aboard Shane.

Like Wayne says, post some pix and tell us about
your kit. Give us some history and a price.

Several of us make the annual run to Carlisle
in August, so if you have a Vette tell us about
that also, then meet up with us at the show.

Thanks for the welcome!

Heres the only 2 pictures I have of the car. They were taken in August, the day I got the car and dropped it at a friends house for storage till my garage is completed in the spring. :(
I don't know much about the kit.(That's how and why I found this site)

The car is a 1970 350/350hp,4 speed. The "project" was started in the late 70's\early 80's and never finished. The guy I bought it from, got the car in 1984 as a "project" and worked on it off and on(more off then on) for the last 24 years. Can't really tell from the pictures, but the rear clip is just sitting on the car,the front clip\hood does tilt, but there is still work needed on the hinges. The piece that attaches to the cowl is the only piece that is glassed to the car.Thats about the only history I know on the car\kit.

Since it is a low mileage(53000 miles),solid car,and my only corvette.I would like to return the body to orginal.Financially I can only have one,so I would like it to be a chrome bumper car.

I do plan on being at Carlisle this year,The last 3 years something always came up that I couldn't make it,but this year it's already marked on the calendar

Shane, thanks for the pix.

In my opinion, you have a project that would be better
for you to continue with as a Maco, or sell the whole
car to someone who will. If you have never put a car
in this condition back to original, I would offer not
to try with this one. To put a car like yours back to
original may cost more than it will be worth for years
to come.

You don't say whether the engine, transmission, and
other key drivetrain/chassis componenets are numbers
matching to the car, but I would expect that they aren't.
If they aren't...original will be expensive to attain.

If you want an original bumper car, keep looking because
I can see you aren't afraid of a project. There are
reasonably priced 68-72 project cars out there to choose
from that will give you what you are looking for in a
finished car.

Having given my opinion on going original, let me also
say that you have a great start on what looks like a
short tail MacoShark. I'd like to see you finish your
car out as a Shark, because being a Maco owner is much
more rare than being an early Stingray owner. Maco owners
are an elite group just because there aren't many out there.
Glad to see that you are one!!!

As always...just my 2c worth...:+
