Le Mans gas filler assembly?

I posted this in "technical," but I don't think anyone checks there... posts are years old!

Where do I get a Le Mans gas filler assembly if I want to go that route? Anybody have one, or know where to get new? Same as Cobra?

This is where I bought mine a few years ago...

They had a better selection then and I paid much more
for one that has a neck and a locking cap.

Thanks guys!

Is either one a direct replacement? The "Mustalgia" item seems to be Corvette-specific, while the finishline part seems to require some adaptation.

I just don't want fuel spilling about, and the car smelling of gasoline... :( I remember an old 60's Porsche my dad had when I was a little kid, and what always comes to mind is that when riding in it I could smell gasoline... not a great memory.

Tim,

Sounds like Andy's choice will fit right out of the box. I think Bill Valentine and Rick Walker have those caps, as well. They bought theirs at Carlisle a couple of years ago.

Mine is a Cobra retro-fit. I want to adapt it to the original '69 gas tank in the original location. I have the cap and the tank, but haven't designed a conversion system yet. The cap I bought has the neck and it doesn't look like they have that model available now.

I typed Lemans gas cap into my search engine and just kept looking.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks guys!

Mine has the tank door offset to the driver's side (and maybe to the rear more?), and would look cool with the Le Mans cap. Toying with the idea, as I've been working on the rear half of the car for some time now and it's getting really close to primer-ready.

Tim,
We've got the same set-up...........

I faked mine, as I wanted to be able to pull the gas tank out without any major problems !

Pretty slick!

I have to ask though... as much mass as that filler cap must possess, does it rattle/come up, etc. at speed, over a bump, etc? Doesn't seem like it would "stay" down when the rear end rebounds off a small pothole, bump, etc.?

Never a problem/rattle/or bounce.....................

of course, with the sidepipes humming in my ears...... I'd never hear any rattles anyway !!! LOL

The door spring keeps it closed just fine and the rubber bumpers around the base keep any noises from occurring !!!

Found it!

Here's a heads-up to anyone else who is looking for the right Le Mans-style flip-top gas cap:

I've been on the waiting list with RR Specialties *(Mustalgia) for their cap, which seems to be "the" one to have for a Corvette. They contacted me today to say that they have a "very limited number" of caps available, and I got one of them.

If anyone is looking, jump on it now.

Try mustalgia.com.
You need a le Mans cap with a 5 inch diameter base. The cobra is 4 1/2 and will not fit unless you drill it to the pre existing gas cap. That will not be functioning but more just for looks. I have a cobra cap here that I have for sale. I have 2 gas caps (one on my mako and one on the corvette summer car ). They look great. Let me know if I can help

I'd like to see pictures of your Corvette Summer car! Can you post some in the proper forum? Thanks!

2 things. I've been in contact a guy Jim from Tennessee who is in the process of buying the casting moulds from the owner of mustalgia. If all goes Well, he will be picking back up the orders... I'm gonna try to help him out ( cause I need caps too) but when I get the green light, I'll announce it to the page... He seems like a pretty cool guy. Also. How can I post pics of my corvette summer car on the page. Keeps saying it's unable to post. Or shoot me an e mail. I'm getting ready to redo the interior... Needs to be ready for Carlisle }>
