Keith,
I see it in the picture, but haven't seen it in person.
I'll take another look in a couple of days.
I think it is the contour of the fender panel and the way
it reflects light.
Thanks, Marv.

The new top looks good.
Back to the body shop for repairs.
The owner is a friend of mine and is standing behind
the work the guys in his shop did (or didn't do).
He will clean up the problems for me and touch up a few door chips.
The first picture is of the top just before I left the garage.
The next is another toy of the Studebaker vintage...

to get it into the shop before the end of the day,
get the damn project started, and get it done right,
so they can get it the hell out of their way!

Well, I stopped in today and they have the front fenders
repainted, but still have some contaminate in the clear...:-(
Mentioned it to the shop manager, so hope they take care of
it without another hassle on my part. The front bumper was
not back on the car yet, so don't know how that will look,
but they did finish the leading edge of the body. Hopefully
the gap between the bumper and body will look a lot better
than it did.

More to come...can't wait till spring!!! :-)

Now you see why so many of us elect to do this stuff ourselves.
It is extremely hard to find someone you can trust when it comes to bodywork and paint.... they just look at the dollar!

That's true. In this case, what is happening is still part of the insurance claim for the towing damage, so I have to get it right before I accept it.

Car is now in storage!!!
Picked it up from the body shop on Feb 13.
It was tough just going from the shop to storage...
Wanted to go for a road trip, bang a few gears... :D
Looks good on the front half.
Will go back in the spring to finish-sand and buff back half.
Next big issue is insurance.
Getting the itch for spring...:+

Thanks Guys...

Rick...it took about 5 months and 2 trys at the paint to get the sparkle...:D The front looks pretty good, now I have to go back and finish-sand and buff from the front fenders back. Will do that in April.

The money tree died...:'( All projects on hold for now. Mako on the top shelf, WB underneath. Will steal the headers off the WB in a couple of weeks, then hope to get the 3-deuces engine into the machine shop in April. Want to put it in the '73 for this year, then rework the 454 next winter.

Too many things to do...so little time...:D

I am confused.
Are you taking the engine out of the gray car and replacing it with the engine you used to run in the blue car?

A couple of reasons...

  1. I like to keep you confused...:D
  2. There is a deep down death rattle along with low oil
pressure in the 454 which really troubles me...x(
And the gas mileage really sucks...

Rather than try to determine what is the matter right now,
I thought I would swap a good 350 in so that I can keep running,
plus it will give better fuel mileage for those long trips...;)

I'll rebuild the 454 later when I have the money.

Hey!!! How 'bout the white turbo hood on the '73??? :7

First show with the '73 this weekend and got a 1st place.

Trying to get the car into the shop for my engine guy to change the
oil pump. Hope the new one will pump enough oil up into the heads
to clear up the clatter on #1 lifters. Don't have a place I can do
the work here, so have to hire it done. Haven't been able to get it
home long enough to do any work there either. Such is life when you
live in the fast lane...and work a hundred miles from home. :D

Yah...I know what you mean. The horn button mechanism broke on
the '73 and I finally got the parts for that...hope to fix it this
weekend.

Taking the car in this morning to get the oil pump relaced...hope
that fixes the clatter.

Need to get the car home long enough to clean up the cobbled mess of
wiring I ran for the fans, then do some engine detailing. It looks
like crap under the hood.

The '75 needs a new battery and the power steering contol replaced.
Got the parts...just need to find them in the junk hole I call a garage.

Of course, the other projects are waiting...AND...now one of the
guys is pressing me to get the '40 Chev into the garage to build a
rat-rod.

Just ain't 'nuff time to do it all...Gotta focus. :D

Sure hope so...Bubba had used silicone instead of a gasket to put
the pan on and the oil pump sceen was plugged, so it was good to
pull that.

Changed the oil pump and had great oil pressure for
about 4 blocks, then I got on it and the lifters on #1 started
clattering again. Now we think that one or more return oil passages
may be plugged with the same goop. Gotta get the valve covers off
next week to check the heads...hope that I don't have pull the intake
or the heads.

This last "shop exeperience" ran me $450, so I'll be doing any more work
on the car in the driveway. :-(

Post pix, etc, etc.
You know the drill...

BTW...the wife liked it.
Asked if you were bringing it to Carlisle this year?
You know her, she likes widebodies...:7
