Yea, picked up the wheels... they look great.... only one small problem... they wont fit.
Not enough back spacing.
Took them back... got to take "smokey" to the tire guy on monday.
Man, nothing seems to ever go easy or as planned.

On a brighter note, it is 75 degrees today.

My car came with a couple of ralley wheels and spacers.I'm looking for a new set of wheels that don't require spacers.I've got a set of slots about a foot wide, but don't want to use them on the mako.

Back to the orig. thread....
Took the wagon out today 12/29/06 for its final drive of the year.

Took a bunch of pictures.....

Took it apart...... (somebody stop me!!!)

Actually, I started taking the engine out, and while I'm at it, probably pull the trans too and have it redone.

Got a bunch done today, hopefully will get it out of the car tomorrow.

Stay tuned...

Snatched the engine on Saturday (12-30-06).
While I was at it, I pulled the trans too. It looks to have been out before, but the engine appears never to have been removed.
Hope to start dismantling the engine this week, after cleaning up the mess.
Put the turbo 400 in a bag to control leakage. I will take it to the trans guy when I start reassembly of the engine.
(act interested, I'm dying over here!)

Ok Guys...you're making me feel bad that I'm not doing too much on my project!! :'(

Waiting on my headlights to come so that I can start the design work on the headlights assemblies and the front end, working on what to do for the tail lights, found something interesting for backup lights...so am not totally sitting on my hands!

At least a few of you are staying focused!! :D

Since the board is almost dead, I thought I would post updates on my wagon progress.
Pressure washed the engine compartment today, did the deck on the house too, hell, it was almost 70 degrees!
The engine is at the machine shop. Boring 30 over, turning the crank 10/10.
Not going to use the 72 orig heads, going to use a set of 70 with big valves that have been installed, also with guide plates, screw in studs etc.
Ordered a ton from summit today to get the project underway.
Not building a monster, just a reliable small block.
Going with forged pistons, 350hp cam, nothing radical, I want it drivable.
Probably going to order my spiral baffles for the header/sidepipes as I have decided that I will be taking the factory units off.
I do realize full well that by removing the factory style exhaust will ruin any chance of an NCRS top flight with the car

I love your wagon. The wheel/tire combo is my favorite. The moonroofs and sidepipes really fit the car.I love hotrods, but driveability and reliability far outweigh hp with me.

Randy- 'ruin your chances at NCRS top fight awards' - how could you. The Judges are not going to be happy seeing a Vette Wagon like that with non-original engine parts. Assuming they get past the wagon part. F-em all- keep hammering on!!! Modify the crud out of it. !

rockcrusher67 wrote: I have several different sets,

Made some more progress this weekend.
Removed the factory side pipe covers. Removed the driveshaft for new u joints, replaced the power brake booster and removed the heater hoses. Some goober had put two 2/4 hoses on instead of one 5/8 and one 3/4. No wonder I was getting a leak under the car.
I also noticed the seal in the back of the master cylinder was leaking, so I will replace that too.
I also removed the tunnel insulation and will put in a new one, this one was trashed. I have started to detail the engine compartment a little, but this little bit of stuff took up the whole day.
The engine is ready to come back from the machine shop. Maybe get the reassembly started in the next 2 weeks.
I seperated the headers from the side pipes. These are the ones I got from DJunod. I am going to install Spiral baffles in the new side tubes.
Have not decided what I am going to do with the side pipes yet, but I will post them here first if I decide to sell anything.
Slowly but surely.

car guy wrote: Gee David- Sounds like we look at this car differently. I do like the lights the way they are, but I think covers would smooth out the front a bit. As for the wheels, they look good on an original, but I think a custom needs custom wheels. Thats all.

Status report.

Got the transmission back yesterday. Its ready to go back in.
I have installed the spiral baffles in the header/sidepipes.
I am now just cleaning the headers and doing some engine bay painting.
I have been painting/detailing parts and pieces for the engine as time allows.
The engine assembly should start tonight.

Update....
Engine is together. Made some mods over stock for sure, but still quite drivable.
Painted it last night, probably will do a "run in" on the engine stand on Thursday.
Scheduled to start the reinstall and hook up next week.
Man, it seems like forever, but it has really not been that long of a project.
I will post some pics when reassembly begins.

Good going Randy !!! I'm hoping not to be too far behind you ........... just got the rear lowered the other night and plan on popping the front springs soon and cutting them. Once I get the front lowered, I can pull the hood and yank the motor and tranny out. Trying to focus, but still too busy at work ! Rick ;-)
