Heres the only 2 pictures I have of the car. They were taken in August, the day I got the car and dropped it at a friends house for storage till my garage is completed in the spring. :( I don't know much about the kit.(That's how and why I found this site)

The car is a 197 …

Welcome Shane, I agree , it will be a whole lot cheaper and easier to just switch bodies. If you decide to do this ,let me know. i can help with parts and i do have a nice 70-73 firewall back i would be interested in trading. Wayne waynefieldscontr@aol.com

In my opinion, you have a project that would be better for you to continue with as a Maco, or sell the whole car to someone who will. If you have never put a car in this condition back to original, I would offer not to try with this one. To put a car like yours …

That is a unique kit!
Looks like a Silva Short tail, but it has the old motion style nose which does not have any side louvers.
I would like to see it in person. Like Marv said, that is a major project returning a car such as this to stock.
When you build a custom, you don't have to be exposed as bad to having everything correct.
Anyway, it is a cool car. I would sure like to see some more pics sometime. And welcome to the forum!

Art, Along with the others...................... welcome to the forum !!!

Very nice project you've got there ! I do tend to agree with Marv................... you're gonna spend a fortune trying to get this car back to stock. Unless you can find a similiar car thats got a rusted frame and trashed motor........... but most likely, the body wouldn't be worthwhile either.

I'd say this would be a good year to be able to find a good chrome bumper vette (in decent shape !) for a good price. People are needing money now !

If this is a short-tail mako, the rear of the frame has been shortened so the body will fit............ therefore you'll have to reweld and splice the frame back together. As for originality........ you'll lose value because of that fix..... or repair, because someone will think the car has been wrecked.

............ this is, of course, just my opinion ! If you want an original...... find another ! If you want a "nice custom"...................... keep this one and get her together as an awesome "Mako Shark II"

Again, welcome to the forum............. this is where CUSTOMS RULE !!!

ART, here is my 2cents worth, which ever way you decide to go. You will need to pull the body off the frame. You just cant do a car right with the body on. If it aint worth a body off it just aint worth building. Wayne

This is a sweet ride and one of the few with the hijacker suspension, off road rims and 4wd! Just kidding.

Rear looks like virgin glass as the front looks like it was borrowed from another project. Great Stuff, Build it as is.

Anybody can build a bone stock vette (if they have the cake to buy the oem lug nuts) it takes somebody really special to build something really special and over the top.

Build what you really want, or you won't build it. If you want a stock bodied vette, sell this car and start again. I'd love this car, HUGE potential.

rockcrusher67 wrote: I guess it all depends on the car. If your looking for something like a NADA book value there is nothing like that on Mako Shark. Wayne

Guys, I just bought a 74 Donor for a Mako Kit for a guy. It was located in Los Angelos, and went for $3500 with a OUTSTANDING small block, automatic. I am building the bodies from my own molds, from a Silva car I bought a long time ago. Body kits, front, rear, side pipe covers and inside back ledge extension is $5000.00 U.S.
If anyone is selling a Mako II for forty grand, they should also invest in Ostrich meat..... I also have some ocean front property in Nevada you can have for 1/2 price.
I also just read someone doing a Convertible, already soaking $25 grand into it and "No end in sight"...???????? Did you adopt this mechanic? Or is he just milking you for his monthly mortgage? I'm not bad mouthing someone I don't know, nor questioning his work.. but it seems to me you could have bought a NEW 69 Convertible for almost the same money!!! I just looked at a 69 427, 4 speed, all original, in an air conditioned garage in California. He was asking $34K, but would consider ANY offer. It sold last week for $21,800. And it was with BOTH tops, If I remember right, it was somewhere around 39K miles.... So, you seriously need to reconsider dumping MORE money into a car that you could get for 1/2. I know there is a lot of specualation out there about auctions, especially now with Barrett Jackson on TV raising so much fuss...but seriously, the economy is kicking everyone's ass... Cars that were going for 30K and up, are now in the 20s....and less. IN CALIFORNIA! So the rest of the nation MUST be lower than THAT??
Let me know the status on your Vertible. If you have the option, get it back and I'll finish it for you. It shouldn't have cost 25K for a full frame off restoration!!! I'm serious!

Be patient and just watch this site as from time to time a car will come up on e-bay, craigslist, or other sites, and the guys will post the link here.

Like Wayne says, the is no blue book for these vehicles and sometimes it may be "buyer beware", so check, …

Steve, you're right, my '69 widebody project is wayyyyy overpriced.
The body guy is a cousin and I lent him money to keep his business afloat and will eventually get some of the money back in trade. In the meantime, the money spent is ledgered against the project. The car is in my garage at home and prioritized behind other projects. Thanks for the offer...I'll keep it in mind.

Speaking of cost...let us know what you think you will end up with in Mako car you are doing for the guy...
