I have a "Stage III" Baldwin Motion C3 hood that I'm going to sell. Basically a stock '68-'72 big-block/LT-1 hood with a '67 scoop added. I have no idea of the history of it; I bought it thinking I might cut the center section out and use it on my Mako, or maybe do a GT clone someday. That said, I'd rather offer it to a member here instead. It will need some TLC to be paint-ready, but is intact and undamaged.

Pictures to come. I was thinking $500.00 if that seems fair.

Baldwin Motion Stage III style Corvette hood for sa

I never saw a real Motion phase hood on documented cars that had the dip with devider in the lower part like a stock bb or LT 1 hood,
All I have seen on Motion cars look like this,

http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/70lt1/motionfront.jpg

But the repos do have that stock looking lower scoop,
Keith had a repo one...

Sure looks like a 427 scoop on top of a stock bb/LT1 scoop but I have been told I'm wrong on that...hum?

Also did Motion sell this in a long version?
Could be Motion sold them 3 or 4 ways so I would love a pictures of a known Motion car with the dipped lower scoop,

I'm not sure what the history is on this. I do know that it is exactly the same as this car, which is rumored to be a genuine Motion. Note that it does have the dips and trim:

Actually, not exactly the same... I see that on the yellow car, part of the 427 Stinger bump is still present. Mine is flat in that area.

Right, not the same hood scoop on that yellow car it's another version and the car is NOT documented,
I dont care one obese rodents rectum about paperwork but the reason I say documented is to present the cars I am making my point with,

If It were me and I didnt just need the toad pelts I would think very long and hard about using that double scoop on my mako

Tim-

The hood like yours (and mine) is a west coast creation that had nothing to do with Motion. But it is much more solid than a Motion hood. I like the look myself.

Thanks Keith for clearing that up, I love being validated,
Would you have the name of the outfit or did it vary?

I like it WAY more than the Motion version, the dip and bar is just cooler looking,
I will say again I would love to see if it looked right on a Mako front clip, I have somewhere in my yard art a BB/LT1 scoop cut from a wrecked hood...hum,

As far as built better than Mako, like I am always say Motion bought their parts or farmed it out, I have yet to see proof that Motion built any fiberglass in house,

With that said, I know as fact the Clip I just bought and the Clip I bought from Joel came from the same mold, weird huh?
The part I bought from Joel, he told me was farmed out, that he has "his" people make the stuff, rumor was his "people" took a mold off a Silva part,
That clip I bought from Joel was half the thickness and half the weight of the part I just bought,
Because it came from the same mold doesn't mean the same person laid it up especially when they were made 20 plus years apart, if the clip I have now was Motion then a better person made it or it was a deluxe model...lol.
Hey , with all the drama strirring around paperwork, I have a receipt from Joel/Motion for a Mako clip....the last ever sold...lol

All the "structure" that holds my cross bar pivot is top shelf, not shade tree,
The inside of my clip has smoothed finish, not as in blocked and sanded but far smoother than most "raw" glass,
It also has the latches glassed in very factory looking,

Thanks for the input you guys.

Bats, I not only thought long and hard about putting that on the Mako, I had planned on it.... that is, until I laid out the footprint of the entire scoop on the Mako hood. It's about six inches wider than the narrowest space between the Mako fender bulges, and it has to begin right were the front dips begin on the hood.

While I think the concept and shape would look great on a Mako, its size and proximity to the front of the Mako hood builds up the entire formerly-flat area between the fender bulges, effectively raising the overall height of the hood and making the fender bulges seem shorter and narrower, like a "regular" Corvette. You almost have to see it yourself to really get how it changes the entire character of the Mako hood... that low, flat, sleek area in front of the Mako cake pan would all raise up about three inches. It's not a "bad" look, but to me it diminishes one of the coolest distinguishing features of a Mako: the exaggerated fender bulges and enlongated hood.

Now, the '67 portion of the scoop is virtually identical in size (lenth/width) to the area taken up by the Mako cakepan scoop... that portion would indeed look very good (I think I'd add another inch or so in height) and fit perfectly on the Mako.

I thought about cutting this portion off the hood, but it would render this cool hood essentially worthless if I did so. There's got to be someone out there that makes a dead-on '67 big-block replica scoop... I found one place that has "them", but who knows if they're correct... it's a scoop clearing house, essentially, not a Corvette parts resource.

Fiberglass parts are a lot like pictures of Bigfoot or The Loch Ness Monster,
So Many companies and hobbyists pulled molds from parts when you have a picture/part That's all you have, a part, in those cases where a person wants to bucks up, it requires all that pesty documentation, otherwise it's just like in this case a "custom" hood,
I have so many people tell me this or that just because they "Say so"

Since Greenwoods kids started trying to revamp some cars now every one climes their wide body is a "Greenwood" even with documentation that wouldn't bleed an extra dollar from me if I were thinking of buying it.

As we were talking so many L-88 hood scoops out there same to a lesser degree with the 68 scoop and in the case of your 427 scoop on top of the BB hood scoop is "really" a 67 427 scoop, what I learned looking around is they are all a little different than stock,
I asked a Mid year friend for the measurement of his scoop,
His reply,

"My original is 36" long, 17" wide, front. The front spears are narrower at the front, then about 3" up the scoop widens. 23" wide rear. Height is 2" front, 1 1/2" rear. All measurements are pretty darn close, considering the shape of the scoop."

See if that is about what yours is,

If I had your hood I would just pull a mold from the upper scoop since you say it will cover the cake pan,
Then make a part and perhaps sell a couple to offset mold costs,
On the other hand, depends how much $$$ you have involved in the hood, if you cut it from that hood someone down the road might want it for a car with a tunnel ram or blower,

If you are talking about my hood, it is stripped to bare glass, never damaged. it does have 2 holes in he back for the hood pins, as Motion did like to use to install, You could wear out a set of tires on a new Mercedes looking for a better one.Of course it is quite pricy.

I was talking "in general" about in this case hoods, if you have documentation with Joels "John Hancock" then you might get a good price for it, from the right person that is, otherwise it's "just" another custom part,

The recent auctions by Keith of things with "Motion" in the name speak volumes to me what people care about and will pay for,
It played a big part in my placing my idea to sell parts on the back burner,

You know what would be fun on a lark,
Post these hoods in this thread on Fleabay, all starting at one dollar with a reserve of course,
If none of them have documentation as to what they are then it's pretty much an open play field,
After the poor response to Keiths Motion stuff it would be fun to see what happens.

Its just a lousy market right now. I'm selling some small stuff, but big stuff isn't going anywhere. The BM hood on the bay recently had no bidders at $3500. I could have told him that, I've had no takers on the complete nose at $3995. I was going to re-list it because his made mine look better, but I decided to save some listing fees. I'm real curious to see how that Mako nose does. For $200 more mine has lights a bumper and less prep.
